The Desire For Freedom – Art in Europe since 1945 – is a collective exhibition showing the works of 94 contemporary artists from 27 European countries. It explores the visions of artists on the concept of freedom in a post-World War II Europe, where a new divide was developing in the face of the Cold War.

The exhibition started at the initiative of the Council of Europe and with the financial support of the European Commission. On display are paintings, photographs, drawings, videos and installations made in Europe over the last 70 years, including artists like Damien Hirst, Jannis Kounellis, Yves Klein and Richard Hamilton.
