With the exhibition Giovanni Fattori – Capolavori da Collezioni Private the GAM Manzoni in Milan pays tribute to one of the protagonists of Italian painting of the 19th century. The exhibition includes 40 masterpieces – some of which have never been seen in public before – from prestigious private collections.
Giovanni Fattori (1825–1908), born in Livorno and educated in Florence, initially painted historical themes and military subjects, but later in his career became one of the leading Italian en plein air artists, painting landscapes, rural scenes, and scenes of military life.
The works included in the exhibition are from the period 1860–1905, covering the largest part Fattori’s career. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Edizioni GAM Manzoni.
