The exhibition Herb Ritts at Palazzo della Ragione Fotografia is the first retrospective in Milan of the late American fashion photographer Herb Ritts.
Ritts (1952-2002) became famous for his black-and-white fashion and nude photographs of supermodels, best represented by his group photo of Stephanie Seymour, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz and Naomi Campbell made for Rolling Stone Magazine in 1986.
His glossy photographs with dreamlike style have immortalised and sometimes even defined Hollywood- and music celebrities like Madonna, Michael Jackson and Richard Gere. He has creates advertising campaigns for fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Chanel, Donna Karan, Gap, Gianfranco Ferre, Versace, Giorgio Armani, Levi’s, Pirelli, Polo Ralph Lauren and Valentino.
Ritts was committed to fight AIDS, actively contributing to charity organisations including amfAR, Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, Project Angel Food, Focus on AIDS, AIDS Project Los Angeles and Best Buddies. He was also a member Board Of Directors for The Elton John Aids Foundation.
