The exhibition Mondi a Milano (Worlds at Milan) is about the dialogue between Milan and the many faraway worlds – from Africa to the East – that visited Milan for the Universal Exposition of 1906. Artworks, design, architecture, documents and furniture tell of the fascination with exoticism and the anxiety with modernity.
Mondi di Milano and Africa are the opening exhibitions of the new Museo delle Culture (Museum of Cultures), or MUDEC. It is a centre dedicated to interdisciplinary research on the cultures of the world, with a permanent collection that includes works from the Middle and Far East, South and Central America, West and Central Africa, and some items of Southeast Asia and Oceania.
