The exhibition Papagaio at HangarBicocca in Milan is dedicated to João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, who have developed a unique way to integrate cinema with installations. A large number of works are on display, created between 2004 and 2014, some of which have been produced for the occasion.

João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva are an artistic duo from Portugal, working together since 2001. They produce films, sculptures, photographs, installations and anthologies of texts that they themselves describe as “poetic philosophical fiction”. Next to their work as visual artists, they have published the philosophical journal Efluvio Magnetico.

They have participated in international events and exhibitions such as the Gwangju Biennale (2010), Manifesta (2008) and the Sao Paulo Biennale (2006). In 2009 they represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale, at which they were invited in 2013 to take part in the main exhibition.
